After graduating from St. Francis College in Brooklyn in 1967, he became deeply involved in the fraternity’s national leadership. Brother Barbarino served as Third District Governor in the New York City area and as Kleos Editor from 1968 to 1978. He was elected National President of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity, serving from 1978 to 1980, and later became an original director of the Alpha Phi Delta Foundation. In 2014, Santo contributed to the fraternity as a member of the Centennial Committee, helping prepare for Alpha Phi Delta’s 100th anniversary gala.
He also received the following Alpha Phi Delta awards:

On August 27, 2012, just a few weeks after attending the Summer Convention, Dr. Santo J. Barbarino passed away following a heart attack. His loss was deeply felt by the fraternity, as he left behind a legacy of leadership, dedication, and service that profoundly shaped Alpha Phi Delta.
