William "Bill" Layton was born on May 27, 1968.  After graduating high school he went into the army reserves, and in the fall of 1988 he enrolled at Ramapo College of New Jersey. It was that same semester that he was one of eight founding fathers for the Gamma Pi chapter. After two years at Ramapo, William transfer to Rutgers New Brunswick where he colonized the Rutgers New Brunswick chapter and became the founding father for the Delta Beta chapter. 


After graduating Rutger, Bill earned his masters degree, and started his own successful business.  In 2014, Bill was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  He fought it, andt he cancer went in remission.   In 2016, he lost his wife Amanda to breast cancer, and then in 2018, he was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer.  He remarried despite his illness, and his wife Terri stood by his side till the very end in June 2023. 


Bill had an immense sense of humor, a great heart, and love for the fraternity.
